Treasurer Harvey Brody reported that total income to the District in the first 7 months of 2012 is $400 due to large expenses with retirement bonuses, new bidding box inserts and GNT expenses. D21 has assets of $409,793.78.

Tournament Manager Pam Hughes announced that the 2013 Presidents’ Day Regional is scheduled at the DoubleTree Hotel, Sacramento. The 2013 Monterey Regional will be held at the Portola Hotel which includes parking for hotel guests. Members are encouraged to make their reservations early.

SF NABC Chairman Jim Leuker reported that plans are going well. He expects a small profit of about $9000. Two nights are already sold out for the tournament and players are encouraged to make their reservations right away.

National Director Bruce Blakely announced that Montreal has been selected for the 2020 Summer NABC. ACBL is interested in hiring a marketing director who would be willing to move to the Horn Lake/Memphis area. D20 brought a motion to the Board which makes it more difficult for Units to transfer to new Districts. Bruce’s motion for playing Directors and their partners to be ineligible for overall awards at STAC week games passed. The highly contentious Strength of Field motion which Bruce opposed failed. Bruce represented ACBL at the recent World Bridge Federation competitions in France and was extremely impressed with technology being used during competition. The World Youth Championships are scheduled for the Atlanta NABC in 2013.

Marion Robertson was reelected Western Conference Representative for District 21 until 2015.

Goodwill Chairman Lo Pesavento presented each Unit with information on submitting their 2012 candidate for the Goodwill Award. She included a list of former winners who are no longer eligible as it is a lifetime appointment. leejpesa@comcast.net

Charity Chairman Jeff Hack announced the 6 winners of the special $30,000 grant given to D21 by ACBL this year. Each of the following charities will receive $5,000: Second Harvest Food Bank (increased to $10,000 by a matching grant); Ride to Walk; StandUp for Kids Silicon Valley; San Jose Host Lions Club; Katie’s Clinic for Rett Syndrome and Contra Costa ARC. From among the many worthy applications, the following charities D21 have been selected to receive $1000 each from D21 in 2013: Project Thank You, Valley Teen Ranch, Humane Society of Silicon Valley, Maryhouse and Pets Unlimited. No further applications will be accepted until 2014.

Education Chairman Bill Corliss announced that the D21 awards for 2012 are as follows: $2500 to the San Francisco Center for Bridge Education and $2500 to Reno Youth Bridge for their outstanding work with Junior players.

Players are encouraged to turn in bidding boxes with worn out inserts to Directors. Cards in predealt decks should also be called to the attention of Directors. These special cards belong to Dan Williams.

Players are encouraged to bring in new members as D21 needs just a few more players to be awarded a 5th Regional.

Respectfully submitted,
Cindy Kirk, Secretary
District 21
